“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates
Staying healthy is probably the single most important thing you can do for yourself. You’ll not only be more productive but you’ll be able to enjoy life more.
My son Brixton, 3 years old at the time, came up to me and said “Daddy, I need my medicine.” His throat had just started feeling scratchy. He knew what he needed to take to prevent a cold…garlic with a little raw honey.
Since we started this simple remedy, I honestly can’t remember the last time anyone in our family has had a full-blown cold.
The following tip may change your life! You may never have to suffer through a week of being sick again. This tip has worked for me and my family 100% of the time.
Here’s the secret –
As soon as you feel a cold coming on (stuffiness, pressure in your sinuses, a tickle in your throat), crush one garlic clove with a fork or garlic crusher. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then swallow it (don’t chew it!) You can take it in small pieces if you need to.
This doesn’t always work if you take it after the cold has fully set in, but if caught early enough it will stop any cold in its tracks!
I recommend doing this at night before going to bed. I want to make sure you keep your job. 🙂
For our kids, we use about a 1/8 of a tsp of fresh-crushed garlic and put a little raw honey over it to make it palatable. They swallow it with some water with no problem.
It’s funny because I’ve told a lot of people about this and most of the time the reaction I get is “ew, that’s gross” and they never try it. I guess some people would rather suffer for a week with a cold than a minute swallowing garlic. Seems like a no brainer to me.
However, for all those who have given it a try, they now live by the rule and are believers! Save yourself the disgust of taking a spoonful of minced garlic from the jar! Crushing your own garlic clove is not even close to being that bad.
Here’s why it works –
Raw garlic has antimicrobial activity (it helps fight viruses and fungal as well as bacterial infections). (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) Garlic has been linked cardiovascular health, reducing inflammation, and cancer prevention. (1, 2, 3)
Garlic also shows some promise for gut health; it contains prebiotics (inulin) that help feed the good bacteria in your digestive track.
TAKEAWAY: Not only is garlic great for making delicious meals, it can also be a great way to prevent colds.
7 DAY CHALLENGE: Try incorporating fresh garlic in at least one of your meals everyday.

Hey Troy,
I’m new to your site but found it when searching up Grok Squat. You seem like a really cool guy.
As it’s winter where I live it’s definently cold season right now, so I think this tip will come in handy 🙂
My favourite health tip is sleeping. As a teenager, when I don’t sleep enough (~9hrs) I get quite angry and also get really low on energy and immunity. I’m much more better when I get a good nights sleep.
Thanks again for writing this article!
